Fish
The fish started as an idea in the mid 1990’s when Ryan was on a road trip down the Baja Peninsula of Mexico with his brother Marc. Seeing the tropical fish of multiple colours, shapes and sizes inspired Ryan to make fish in glass. He started out making tropical varieties with the help of his dad, Pat, but always wanted to make the trout he grew up catching as a youngster in southeast British Columbia. Through years of trial and error, Ryan developed the fish and eventually in November of 2008, the Bavin’s had a solo show of the fish at Master’s Gallery in Calgary, Alberta.
Since the first show in 2008, Ryan has continued to work on the fish. More recently, in 2021, one of his Rainbow Trout was accepted into the juried “Glass Lifeforms” exhibition, affiliated with the Harvard Botanical Museum in Massachusetts, USA. He was the only Canadian accepted into the juried part of the exhibition.
